Our Needs

Our communities have been generous through the years when it comes to making investments in our schools and creating opportunities for our students. However, the oldest portions of our facilities in Calamus and Wheatland date to 1950, meaning 21st century learning can be challenging.

At the high school, the last major work occurred in 2005. Some of the needs and priorities identified at that campus include:

  • No secure entry

  • The Ag Building and its equipment are outdated, and the building is not connected, creating safety and security concerns

  • Poor circulation throughout the building

  • Small classrooms

  • Deteriorating hallway floor conditions

  • Windows that leak and lack screens

  • Crowded stairwells and hallways

  • The lower level lacks restrooms

  • Art Room renovations are needed

  • A lack of resource space

  • A limited number of staff bathrooms

At the elementary school, the identified needs include a renovation of the commons area, upgrades to the kitchen’s mechanical systems, and new kitchen equipment.

Delaying these improvements will lead to higher costs in the future due to inflation, rising material and labor costs, and increasing interest rates, among other factors.

No athletic fields or fitness spaces are included in this project. This was a request made by some community members in the wake of the district’s failed bond issue in March 2023.
